add some food colouring to the water and then you should be able to follow the leak

Use red food coloring to test the seams. If it is a healthy leak, put a drop near a seam that you suspect. It will travel to the leak and then suck into the seam. If it is a really slow leak, dump the whole bottle in and then drain the tank after about 30 minutes or so. Then look for where the dye sucked into the seam.

As always the best ideas are the simplistic ones.... can't wait to see the final tank
 
I found some spray at Menards that disolved silicone. I dont remember the name but it was citrous(spelling) based I think made by GOOF off or GOOP off. It was light orange in color and in a spray bottle.

Are you speaking of Goo Gone ?

I have a bottle right here, I use it to unstick everything.
