600 gallon tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As mentioned do NOT use the same acrylic for lids. You will want polycarbonate. It doesn't need to be thick and will not warp. Thicker lids of acrylic will eventually warp and won't sit flush with the opening.

Well I did it got a real sump,, from here https://bigfishcaa.com/
I got it for a little less then it would have cost me to just buy the material and do it myself and on top of that the people I was dealing with were amazing I would text him and get a reply it 5 min every time, there was a Baffle that got damage in shipping so he sent me out a new piece of acrylic and glue the next day. Wish I found them before I bought my tank.

Sorry to hear about the issues you've had OP. If you dont mind, what is the overflow issue you are having with the C2C? Are your 1.5" drain not sufficient. I'm no expert but what you have should be good.

They should have used polycarbonates for the lids to reduce any warpage. It cost just a bit more but makes sense in the long run given money spent on the tank.

I’ve not read this whole thread yet, OP sorry to hear for your troubles with your builder... I too had/having issues but ended up with a quality product for the most part.

I have 4 - 1.5” drains was able to run two Drains wide open with 2 - 3100gph pumps.
Only running 3 now, broken gate valve...

I was told I needed 2” as well, it may be better just offering my situation for more information.

Tanks looking good!

Oh, with your lid situation. I guess lexan is less prone to sagging is what I’ve been told

Correct, Lexan = Polycarbonate and what is a better option for lids.
They warped with in the first week. A week is too quick for me for what I paid. But also if they recess the lids like I asked it wouldn't be as pronounced. that company's communication sucks I bought a sump for About 5% of one I bought the tank for from this other company And I already had more communication about how I want it built. Acrylic creations tells you will call you a week before your tank is about ready and go over the details. I should have know you get what you paid for and they were the cheapest, live and learn. I am in the process of getting new lids made but instead of haveing only 4 lids I am going to go with 8 to see if that will help this way they are not so heavy. But if they warp I am just going to put a Canopy on the tank so I cant see them.

Ok setup the continuous drip water change system. I love being on a well. I do have a whole house UV light and carbon filter so the incoming water is good. Now I just need to find the right flow rate Because I want some nutrients in the water so algae crows on my rocks because I love watching the tropheus moorii graze on the rocks all day. I am hoping with the groupe of geophagus sifting the sand and the current in the tank i will not I think have to vacuum the sand i have a wave maker that i only turn on for about an hour a day to help stir things up. I think this is one of the best thing I have done for this tank.getting the drain to drain good was the hardest part but now I have it setup with about a 10ft vertical drop going to my basement and out my basement door frame it is about a 50ft drain line. I had to put a ball valve to slow down The flow because when I turned my pump off to feed the fish the water rises in the sump in create a Siphon And even though it's only a 1/2 in drainline i Would still lose enough water in the sump to wear my pump would drawing in air when I started it backup for about a 1/2 an hour until it filled back up also when I had it hooked up to my washing machine drain it would not start to drain after the siphon was broke thats why I had to run it out my basement door.
