Call Laird, ACI, and Nationwide plastics and price out the acrylic to build the same tank. Then swap out the front with the top and make it a good footprint tank. www.garf.org has instructions on building an acrylic tank. I would imagine you could build a new tank for $1000 or less.
I wish i could do that but it would give me less room in my garage and my wife insists that we use our garage for stupid stuff, like parking her car in it.

Ok im thinking of offering him $500 for it. But i have a question.
Does anyone know how much a tank kike this weighs?
Is there a formula out there to help me figure it out?
With the way the economy is, you can bargin with the seller but dont insult they guy.....

Shoot for 750, hopefully he will counter that. Then again he can counter 500 you offer him or just be like get out of here...!

To the OP.

If your not sure don't buy it. If it was me: I already have my stocking list ready ;) the decision on buying it happened a long time ago.

I just bought my third used acrylic tank so I understand the work involved getting that thing operational.

It sounds like your still on the fence, I advise just wait and look for something a little smaller, this tank is not a good starter project.

So you would have bought it?

imo...i would say keep looking around.. as already mentioned that tank needs a lot of work-if you are up for it, then go for it-talk him WAY down to about 700 (500 is like a slap in the face)and ask him to fill it up to make sure it holds water; but, if you think you will be overwhelmed, don't get it...my 150 tall is 36in tall i believe, and trust me, i hate cleaning that tank lol
Good luck either way, and remember, in the end-the decision is yours!

oh yeah! That thing would be filled already. :D

I would only buy it if it held water. I love acrylic tanks, very easy to work on, add holes, what ever.

I know that it holds water because it is at a gas station that i buy my cigarettes from, the only reason it is not filled right now is that it is outside with no heaters in it. they kept loosing fish from the cold and always had algea problems from direct sunlight.
