Winter is already starting here - last night it was around -0°C (37°F) and the pond is still warm and dandy and there are hundreds of guppy fry in the pond.

The hottest it gets here is ~75°F (maybe once or twice a year) so I doubt the fish need to hide from anything but predators and the sun

how did you end up regulating the temp in the pond. also id be very concerned about those pipes freezing in winter. what material did you use for the pipes was it insualted? im thinking about doing the same thing just wondering how it held up
It's started to freeze already here and so far pond temps are pretty much stable - 23-27°C.
I ended up just making the pond bigger to "regulate" it - That way it can take all this water coming in. During the winters the water flow will automatically be more to it, because the radiators inside need more water to keep the house warm. Sometimes the surface of the pond is a bit cold, but the fish seem to hang out there anyway, and they always have a warmer place to back up to.
I'm not sure the pipes freezing up is an issue. They are dug in the ground, and obviously they're pretty warm, so the water would have to go off for a while for the water to cool down and the pipes to freeze up.

Checked the pond out this weekend and the fish are doing good. There's not many guppy left, I suspect the goldfish, which are growing pretty fast got hungry and ate most of the guppies. The fish are only fed 1-3 times a month, so they're probably hungry. I think I'm going to buy a few of these tetra vacation feeder blocks and throw them in every time I live so they get fed a little more gradually, and not just alot when I'm there, with nothing in between.

It's -15°C (5°F) there during the nights, but the water is warm and cosy, so I guess heat is not a problem with the pond, even in the winter like now.
