A couple of months ago I traded for a 3 x 2 x 2, 65g lobster tank. I was originally wanting to do a reef, but the work required to start and maintain one drove me away from that idea. I want to do freshwater now and I'm open to any stocking ideas, fish big or small. I'm currently thinking about 2-3 polys or a few larger cichlids if they would be fine in a tank that size (GT, EBJD, Texas, etc...). If flowerhorns are as personable as I hear they are then I may look into getting one of those. I'm also considering a planted tank with neons, a couple angels, and possibly rams. If I can find a good deal on discus I still go planted and get a few of those. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1 Ebjd, 1 redear sunfish, 1 Royal pleco in a tank with a driftwood centerpiece and a few elodea

Low light planted with your betta as the feature fish, and any tank mates that won't bother him. :D

When I get new tanks I try to upgrade my current fish into them where possible.. Just an idea..

I can promise your betta will LOVE a 65g. :P

My parents wouldn't let me set up the tank if I just put the betta in it.

Long term, none of those cichlids should be kept in that tank.
I'd look into South American dwarfs or African shell dwellers.
The 3' lengthy really limits your options on "bigger" cichlids.

That is very true, good point

You could probably house a jack demspey or green terror in there for a little while being that they grow slow but eventually they'll need a bigger tank.

4ft is good for JD and 5ft for a GT toght?

Big cichlid and short tank dont work together. Shell dwellers are cool

Which is why you don't JUST put the betta in it.. You build it around the betta. :D Get some bloodfin and lemon tetras, maybe some rasboras, a few cory cats... You could make a betta very happy.. :D
