Lotuses and lilies grow big and fast and don't need CO2, certainly not once they reach the top, but they are root feeders and would do best with a rich substrate, and need a lot of light. One plant would probably be stunted in a 6ft tank lol.
That tank looks great, I think I will give Java fern a go, does African water fern have the same requirementsJava fern will do okay under brighter conditions, I have mine under two h.o. t5's. You can always elevate the lights a bit.

I'd start it low in the tankThat tank looks great, I think I will give Java fern a go, does African water fern have the same requirements
Yeah, I will start it on some small wood and hope it grows, I know there slow growers but how long would a couple leaves take to reach a foot longI'd start it low in the tank
The tank is already set up, I will try the mopani wood with the java fern and the African fern, I already have some java and crypts as testers and they seem to be doing fineMy biggest concern with the African fern on initial setup would be brown algae smothering the leaves. It seems like a lot of tanks go through a brown algae phase during or shortly after the cycle. But barring that, maybe a few months with good light and nutrients. If its anything like Java fern then I'd attach it to some Malaysian wood or Mopani so it can soak up some nutrients from the wood. My java always does better on that stuff.
They are tough and great, but some people find them ugly, and unless you are careful. they will strangle your other plants.Don't forget mosses like Java or christmas They are pretty adaptable to any conditions. You can do anubias in the shaded areas. For crypts and swords you will need root tabs if its just sand you are using.
