6x2 vs 8x2

I'd go with Florida gars in a tank that size. They would reach a good size.

If I decide to go with cichlids, any idea if a RD/Midas would work with other large cichlids in a 7x2.5x2? Already have 4 young jags i'm growing out hoping for a male, would a male jag work with a Midas in a tank that size if the tank was well decorated with rocks/wood etc? I've just been offered a 4" male Midas for £10 and don't want to pass it up if it could work out!

It should but its a toss up, with stuff to break up sight lines and adequate aquascaping it should work. But both species are known for cohab intolerance

Hmm.. Not too sure then, would like a SA/CA community but have no idea which of the larger cichlids would work well with a jag in that size tank..

Sad fact is jags aren't community fish unless the tank is sufficiently large enough and even then they may just bother others.

Well that's a bummer.. Could you guys give me a few larger cichlids that would work in a community together? Want a decent bit of movement in the tank. Cheers!

If you want a cichlid community stick to the less agressive end of things. Midas and jags "can" Cohab with others but there's a high risk of them killing off tank mates.

What about something like an oscar, black belt, green texas, convict, gold saum/jack dempsey and an ornate bichir to start off? If this would work are there any other large cichlids that could be added to this?
