Genetics, color of surroundings, diet, mood, many things can affect coloration in cichlids. Haitensis seem to be very variable in pattern.
From my experience you can keep jags with tankmates as long as there raised together if ur going for one centerpiece fish in that tank I'd go with a fire track eel and you could do some other fish with it like a black ghost knife and some birchirsWell now i have to decide between the haitiensis and the Jaguar to be my "big boy" ...
Thanks guys you ve been really helpful
Not sure why I said fire track eel lmao but u know what I meant fire eel lolFrom my experience you can keep jags with tankmates as long as there raised together if ur going for one centerpiece fish in that tank I'd go with a fire track eel and you could do some other fish with it like a black ghost knife and some birchirs
Overfiltration could prob help out a lot with that on my big ish tank I like to run canister filters sponge filters and hob filtersI'd recommend against fire or tire track eels unless one is committed to very large and very frequent water changes since both reach 3+ feet in aquariums.
The nitrate that just one produces would require a 75-90% water change each week. Obviously with more fish, the amount of days between changes drops.
What are the removal resins and don't they make media for canisters that removes nitratesFiltration won't help with nitrate at all, it's only removed via water changes, chemical nitrate removal resins, and to a lesser extent plants.
Trust me I know there's no getting around water changes I do all my tanks about 50% at least once a weekYou can buy nitrate removal resin balls online and put them in media bags in your filters, seachem make a similar product, both need periodically removing and recharging either via gassing of in salty water or using bleach.
Besides it's not just nitrates, you need to consider build up of fish hormones and minerals in water changes...
Can't escape water changes tbh.
