I thinned the herd to five by selling 2 of the (smaller) gars to a fellow keeper. The pack is now more homogenenous.

Yesterday morning I moved the 5 (and the CK) to their next growout tank (40*16*20) and although the stressed a bit in the beginning, it worked well. In the evening I fed them and the ate the lancefish as usually.

In order to help them to adjust to the bigger tank and prevent any issues from "darting" the entire 40", I placed a piece of tall driftwood in the middle of the tank. The can use the entire area, but need to slow down to pass from one side to the other.

I´ll try to get some pics this week (although the place where the tank is doesn´t help...)

Excel;ent job raising them, can't wait to see their new set-up

So here is the new set-up.
Since its temporary and this will be a future quarantine tank, I kept it bare bottom. Placed the driftwood to limit their speed in case they get spooked.
As I mentioned above the tnak is placed in an almost impossible place to take pics (bad lights and angle), so this is all I could do:

they are all eating massivore by now

Thanks Amy!
I already have the 250g where I´ll keep them in the future (60*40*24"), but I believe they should be here at least a couple of months more, no?

I believe the bigger one has reached the 1st plateau (he is around 10" by now), since in the last weeks he has not growth a lot compared to some of the others that are by now much closer to him sizewise.

I would def keep them in the tank until you feel it is to "small" for all of them then make the move up. a few more monthes sounds about right.

So you don´t have to scroll back:

- I bought 7 small (3-5.5")FLG in the end of January;
- put them in a 30g and later 55g growout;
- sold 2 of the original pack;
- acquired in the meanwhile a CK and 3 polys (2 endlicheris and a senegalus) as future tankmates;

and bought this 60*40*24" 250g tank as their final home.

So, here is my first video of the 250g with a new phone. Not the best, but gives an idea

Great looking gars.

Golden Shiners work excellent and can usually be mail ordered in bulk.

They are also easy to grow and gut stuff during quarantine, and don't generally ever require heaters!
