1 flowerhorn would work in that tank they usually dont bother u wen cleaning mine was a wet pet and wen i cleaned the tank he left my hand alone also ive hand fed him.

Thosse "barnacles" are actually vermetid snail shells, they are a hitchhiker in reef tanks. I don't think they will raise your pH to any noticeable degree but they are very sharp, I've impaled my finger on them quite a few times and I could easily see a large cichlid blinding or injuring himself slamming into one of them. I would snap them all off at least so they aren't sharp. A file might help to do this.
As far as cleaning the tank, it can be a real pain to get coralline algae off things. Your best bet is probably a long soak in the vinegar solution, and then attack it with a strong sharp razor blade or similar metal scraper, while being careful not to scratch up the glass.

I plan on adding a bichir or two along with a crenicichla or flowerhorn in the tank and I believe that bichirs are more pH resistant so I think that it should be fine. Also I found out that using the edge of an old gift card works well but I’m pretty sure I’ll hve better results with maybe something like a putty knife.

I was thinking of getting one but I’m unsire if they’d be compatible with a bichir. I’ve been wanting to get the delhizis and senegals for so long but never had enough room till now but I still want a “wet pet” that is compatible with them. Crenicichla seem to be more tolerant of tankmates and I’ve heard of individuals that beg for food and seem to watch you as you work around the tank.

U can also do 1 oscar they are wet pets If u get the flowerhorn smaller and raise it with the bichirs it should be fine depends on the flowerhorn.

Wouldn't trust a Oscar with Senegal Bichir because of their smaller slender body shape.

Yeah, also I don’t think an oscar would fare well in a 72 gallon, 125 wpuld be better. I’m torn between getting a crenicichla or a flowerhorn...Crenicichlas seem awesome and have that stealthy look to them while fh are more of a wet pet but I really don’t want to run into any problems because of their genes. My lfs has one that’s about 3.5-4” long with the tail and it seems pretty healthy. However I want to ensure that both would fare well with bichirs and I’m getting mixed views on this. I’ve seen kingofdiy keep his with a bichir but I’ve heard that fh can also do a number on them.
