740 Gallon Plywood tank for Discus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have always want to do a plywood tank build...but never really had the guts or the know how. The placement of your tank in your house is great, the only thing I wish is that it seems to be a little low compared to the couch. But other than that awesome...the background looks beautiful, I cant wait to see this finished with live plants and discus in it. Absolutely amazing. One of the better builds I have seen on here.

Great Project, keep up the good work.

the only thing I wish is that it seems to be a little low compared to the couch.
When sitting on the couch the middle of the window is at eye level, so should be ok. When lying on the couch the water surface is more visible, but not annoyingly so. It's always possible to buy a bigger and higher couch off course :)

This picture shows two caves and also gives a better look on the detail of the rock structure. This fine detailing was however not really necessary in hindsight because with epoxying and the layer(s) of fine sand a lot of the detail was lost, with cement though you would loose more detail.

The left side with a part of the overhang installed. It already shows that the overhang is quite large. A good place for discus to hide under.

The back of a styrofoam wall. Almost all styro and polyurethane is removed. The numerous little holes where I went through are clearly visible. But fortunately repair was quite easy, but also a lot of work.

And in the picture above you can see that the backside is also epoxied.
No bare styro left.

The walls nearly finished.

And finally the background is placed back in the tank and glued in with polyurethane foam. Then some final layers of epoxy on the seams.

Great job so far. Watching for the end result!

I'm so impatient to see the end result I can't imagine how antsy you must be. This is going to be just beautiful!
