And the decision gets harder... Would you all recommend midas from CC or from TUIC? jw

You must have missed my post lol.. no description of his personality yet because I haven't had him long but soon enough I'll get a better idea of how he is

but look at that coloration! The only problem with him is a birth defect on his other side.. it bulges out more than the other side. No lifting of scales ect no sign of illness. He is still adjusting so not taking food yet but showing interest. The most obvious trait I have seen in my limited experience with Oscars is Curiosity!

He had the balls to stick his face into my Marbled Gobies cave even though the Goby was defensively lunging at him a few moments earlier.

His defect doesn't seem to bother him.. he sleeps weirdly like any other Oscar, swims around clumsy like any other Oscar (actually, he's very well balanced for his defect) if you saw him swimming from his "good" side you wouldn't be able to tell he has a defect at all. (he is pooping as well so I'm not concerned)

and, they are intelligent! he looks out of the tank even while swimming and seems to be checking out the entire room.. you can tell there is some intelligence going on with Oscars, and that is evident from the moment you put one in your tank!

That's gonna be a hard choice between the Midas and Oscar.. but my vote is with the Oscar. they are such impresive fish and truly the ONLY Cichlid I will ever keep again.

Good luck!

Well im pretty sure if you buy from rapps you will be happy. Since you live in long island you may be able to set up a time to go see his facility and purchase your fish.

isletas will get to around 10 inches for the male and 8 for the female. I think zonatum reach over 14 inches

The zonatum would be happy at 14" in the 75? I've just seen Mo's and it seems like a giant.

I'm basically planning on this being a 1 fish tank btw... I feel like I'm down to either a Citrinellus or a "Red isletas"... Which leads into my next question (lots of research here).

Are there any personality differences generally between a midas and a red isletas?

I would go with the Midas as a solo fish. The Zonatum for 1, will not only get 14"+, but is also a very tall bodied fish, which makes it even bigger. 2 as pretty as they are, they are nowhere near as fun as a Midas imo.

Yeah this is what I thought, but wanted confirmation. So to ask it again to keep the question active, are there any personality or trait differences (besides individual fish differences) between the Citrinellus and the Red isletas?
