Thank you very much for the ID on gender for Sharko, the others are still just kinda hanging out and getting chased by Sharko (Sharkett?).

Here’s my pair for gender comparison. They’d spawned many times but unsuccessful. Not together anymore because the male beat up the female. Problem was the swordtails. The pair couldn’t defend the fry against swordtails that were close in size. Some are round 5”. Noticed a big difference in behavior vs your average hybrid. Wild types are way more likely to prey on cichlid fry like they do in the wild. Anyway pretty hard to sex firemouths but in time you’ll know.

Yeah there will be lots of chasing and bickering but they rarely harm each other. A lot of attitude in these little fish lol.
my fire mouth cichlid is with 10 tetras but i keep a backup tank in case i need to separate them
I was just considering firemouths for my 75 gallon and then saw this thread. Very cool
I got a pair that just successfully hatched a group of wigglers today! 
My largest pair Sharko and Shorca, no massive amounts of aggression just them taking the one pot up and guarding it, I understand they may get eaten but I’m still excited. Sorry, some of the pictures are bad I was too giddy to grab the actual camera and didn’t want to bug them too much for photos. Pictures are from 3 different days.

thank you so much! I owe anything i have learned to this forum and care books, first batch got eaten looks like whoops, figured it would happen them being first time parents. ?next time i will view through the view finder of the camera from my computer on the other side of the room
