Hey guys, just set up my 75 gallon South American Biotope 3 days ago.
.
*Aquarium Details
-100lbs Mystic White II Pool Filter Sand: looks phenomenal, white and bright
-48" Current USA Satellite Pro Plus LED light: awesome functionality
-Eheim Pro 4 Cannister Filter (rated at 160gallons)
-Fluval Heater w/ Guard
.
I wanted to wait for about 4 weeks to cycle the aquarium before stocking any fish.
I initially wanted to do discus, but now I feel that it may not be worth the trouble and expense
.
My Stocking Plan was the following (after the tank is cycled and incrementally)
(6) Sterbai Cory's
(5) German Blue Rams
(3) Satanoperca Leucostica; I can't get enough of geophaguses
(1) Green Phantom Pleco
(1) Black Ghost Knife
(5) Orange Koi Angels

I think eventually the fish would outgrow the tank but should be fine for quite a while. What do ya'll think? Does it sound crazy or ok?

sounds good, I've had German Blue Rams and they always die even with the best Water conditions. I had them with Discus with the cleanest water ever , I had Gold ram and Electric Blue Rams also. None of them lived more than 6 months. I don't know what it is. You should maybe try some Bolivian Rams also.

German blue rams are very sensitive to ph and hardness unlike Bolivian rams. Bolivian rams can handle a higher ph. That is why.

I had excellent water and ph, other German ram owners tell me they barely live over a year also. Maybe wilds do better i dunno.

Was your ph less than 7? I've known plenty of people who've had them longer than a year. Wild types will only be more sensitive to ph. But the genes might be better. Either way the life span of any ram or just about any cichlid is longer than a year. Most average 5-15.
I haven't kept many SA cichlds because my ph ranges from 7-7.6.

Nice looking tank, green phantoms like it towards the cooler side of tropical whereas the Rams like it towards the high end. Never had angels of any sort but I've heard they like warmer temps too. As others have said, GBRs are neat and all but I have only had one out of ten make it more than a year. Most less than a month. I would also worry about the BGK and the cories together.
