75 Gallon South American Setup; Stock Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agree with above black ghost will soon eat small tetras.
They also reach 20 inches,too big for a 75.

I thought FireMouths are pretty aggressive for a community setup right? At the moment I'm leaning towards the following:
(1) Black Ghost Knife
(1) Green Phantom Pleco
(8) German Blue Ram's: Tank bred
(5) Orange Koi Select Angels
(10) Cardinal Tetras

I'm hoping bioload shouldn't stress the tank much at all.

In addition to removing the knife, cut the Rams down to 4. Also, your angels can and will eat the cardinals when they are grown.

Id cut the knife out, Cardinals could work if they are large and the angels are well fed, might be better to go with a taller bodied tetra but if your set on the cardinals it could work out. I would probably go with more like 6 rams (2 trios), or a trio rams and a trio apistogrammas as well, and call it a day.

Hmmm...man I can't make up my mind!
.
Is this list a little more feasible:
(6) German Blue Rams
(4) Satanoperca Leucostica
(1) Green Phantom Pleco
(10) Cardinal Tetras

A small group of satanoperca is a bit too much for a 75 in my opinion. Adult size is roughly 10 inches.4 of those some decor and the other fish will soon look cramped.
Something like a group if keyholes or maybe biotadoma cupido may be more suitable.

Rapps has satonoperca acuticeps. They stay smaller and get to seven inches or so. Smaller for females. You can do a small group of those in a 75.

^ The leucostica will be a little large to do a group of 4 but there are plenty of eartheaters which get just a bit smaller and would work fine. The acuticeps would work, as would any of the 6-8" max growing species. A favorite of mine are the beautiful "tapajos" variations.
