75 gallon stock?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
F Fishtank6575 Tank looks great, very clean and tastefully done. I like the substrate looks really good. Is it blasting sand or commercial substrate?

Growing out a group of 10 sevs from 2-4", and they are really hard on each other, even in a 4 foot tank. You can see the territorial nips and constant lip locking.
I'm having the same issues.
I have 6 in a 210 gallon and they are extremely aggressive, more so than lots of c/a cichlids I have kept. It's getting that bad I've decided to move them on.

I guess the exception proves the rule.

I’ve kept a group of adults in a 75 for several years without issue.

I have an orange shoulder that established itself quickly as the boss, but I think they were all males.

Sounds like yours looked different enough that they were not hard on each other. I've got siblings growing out, and whacking each other. I've seen it many times at the LFS as well with small severum siblings. I bought my group from a local breeder, and he sold them to me for real cheap because he needed space for the 3rd batch, and was tired of the constant whacking from the previous 2 batches.

That makes a lot of sense-

And reminds me of when I had (5) 1” rotkiels that quickly turned into 3-
- until now I had written it off to shipping or acclimatization errors

I'll be curious how the dynamics change as your fish get larger and more mature. Most of them are babies right now. Keep us updated!

I agree to watch for the festivum getting picked on too much/stressed. Is there any reason you can't move him to the other 75 now?

I always like seeing planted tanks. :)

He is doing well in this tank at this time. Ive noticed aggression levels are going down. I assume this is because the hierarchy is set until the fish mature more.

I anticipate the sajica will become tank boss and will keep this post updated as things change.

At this time I cant find the pleco and Im wondering about the quality of the rotkeil. He doesnt have any bars and is plain looking. What do you think of him?

Here is a picture of the other tank.
