Agreed. You could do that and try to find a nice male jack. Some dithers and pim's for the bottom. You can always just figure out what you want for final stocking and buy a bunch of juvies to grow out and pick out the ones you like. I think the gt and jd would have nice color contrasts.

wouldn't the GT and JD probably fight like hell once they got big though regardless of whether they grew up together or not? I'd love to have both i just didn't think it was really an option I know a lot of ur posts are sarcastic just checking if this is one of them lol

The 2nd and 4th options would need a larger tank. I chose other: Midas (pure Midas, not Midevil).

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read the OP. So why don't you want a midas or devil? I guess instead, I'd go with a V. argentea or a Chocolate cichlid (or a pair of either of them).

Dunno i'm just not a huge fan of the midas and devils, i've seen very few with coloration that i like - the chocolates are relatively interesting looking, just not what i'm looking for - good suggestions though

LOl sorry for the sarcasm. Yes, I'm being serious about this combo. Again, it's a fish to fish basis if the combo will work. I personally am growing out 2 oscars, 2 jacks and 4 gt's in my 150. They're still small (well the oscars aren't) They were all bought in the middle of july and the jacks and jd's growth rate have been similar. The oscars were bought the smalles at about an inch and now the big oscar is about 7-8". So far, no issues. I just keep them fed and off live food!

i'll definitely keep that in mind, a GT and JD combo would be ideal I just don't want to get down to when they grow to 5-6" and then decide its WW3 and not have anywhere to separate them to

So tomorrow I am going to check out a 75 gallon tank setup that as long as it has no cracks etc I will be purchasing. Even though I don't know i'm getting it 100% i've pretty much decided that after it cycles I want the stock to be 1-2 large fish rather than several mid sized fish. Here's a list of considerations and a few fish that I don't want:

Considering:
Green Terror (Frontrunner at this point)
Native Tank (Crappie & Bream)
Tiger Oscar (Don't flame, not sure if this tank would be sufficient or not that's why I'm asking)
Jaguar Cichlid (Same as Oscar)
Jack Dempsey (Meh, not all that impressed)

- Will probably add a hi-fin spotted pleco in addition to whichever of these

Don't want:
Midas
Red Devils
Severums
African Cichlids

- Standard 75 gallon dimensions, approx 4' x 19" footprint

I feel like the Jag is probably pushing it. If I were to go with a GT would there be any room for anything else? Or would my best bet just be to stick with him and a pleco? I respect everybodies input and of course if anybody has any other suggestions I will take them in to consideration, doesn't have to be just cichlids thats just kinda how the list came out haha.

I hear these can be relatively dangerous to certain fish and their slime coats, particularly bichirs.
Green Terror's are amazing, you won't regret it.
Get him young. About 1" would be perfect.
Grow him out. You'll hate him for a week, and then realize he's a dog.

yeah on the hi fins i knew they'd mess up other plecos and bichirs but i figured they wouldnt be able to hurt a large cichlid, im really feeling the green terror i think that's what im going to go with :) thanks everybody
