Having 2 cichlids is never a good idea. One will always be dominant over the other. In a 4 foot tank this could end badly pretty quick.

Idk if any of the original people that responded will see this but.
the fish came and the texas passed away due to being blind and very lethargic

Sorry about the Texas but it may have been for the better. I suggest you grow the JD out and maybe add some dithers to make it more comfortable and once you know the gender you could get it a mate. I still wouldn’t get the Oscar. Also some pictus catfish would be cool and very active on the bottom imo.

i get what your saying but the green texas and jack dempsey were additions for my oscar so i think if they get along i will keep them together
A main factor of large cichlids isn't just length. When they get to a certain size they mass up in every direction...my Oscar is 12~13 inches and still growing. I thought he was large/thick at 10 inches, but compared to his size/bulk now it isn't even close. And some fish get their 'adult' personality which can throw off the whole tank dynamic. Just some things to watch out for.
