[TD="class: alt1, bgcolor: #F5F5FF"]Hey guys, I've been faced with the opportunity to buy an adult 9" male midas cichlid(from another member of MFK) or a male 8" texas cichlid. I've been looking for a single "wet pet" american cichlid to keep alone in my 75 gallon tank for a while and I'm just curious about whether you think a male midas or male texas would be a better fit and be more interactive and personable and be an overall more fun and interesting single fish to keep out of the two. Both are great looking specimens. and I believe the texas is a Hericthys Cyanoguttatus...not a carpintis. Thanks guys/gals

From what i have heard, the midas/red devil will be more interactive and entertaining then the texas. So i would go with the midas/red devil

cool, how do texas cichlids in terms of personality and all that stack up to something like a jack dempsey just out of curiosity because in my experience jacks look real nice, but they just sit around and don't do anything unless eating or breeding

I have kept both of these types.

I would rate them top ten coolest and overall pure breeds

Texas- bold personality; they look crazy when adapted and dominant! change to cool colors when breeding , durable and active, some attack the glass. Beautiful spangling pearls must see in person to appreciate. Get to about 1 ft.

Midas- chillin personality, a lot attack the glass, get interesting ball head, beautiful vibrant velvet colors, get huge and hugable. Gets to about 1.5".

For 75g I would recomend the Texas cichlid. For a Wet pet, I'd recommend the Midas because they will be in front of you and you'd have a better bond with themt. The are sweet. \

But the Texas is really cool by look and active personality.

The texas cichlids ive seen are a lot more active then dempseys, and all would stare you down. The midas/red devil get pretty mean, im not sure if the texas are as aggresive. For a wet pet, definately the midas

midas sounds like the choice for just an awesome personality, but then again the texas are beautiful with the pearl spangles on their body and the fact that they are very active also. Whats the deal with Red Texas cichlids? Are they just a diff color strain of texas or are they hybrids that consist of texas bred with some other cichlid?

From what i have read, its usualy a green texasxmidas/red devil, green texasxblood parrot or king kong or red terrors. though it takes years of crossbreeding and selective breeding to get them. Im still not sure if mine is even a red texas

Both will be potentially be great for the 75,it will come down to individual fish personality.generally most RD and texas are interactive.I have a jagXtexas that is a crazy glass banger.his father was a male cyano
