75 standard vs long

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The issue I have is with weight, I'm supposed to have a maximum 75g. I can get away with the 80 the others are just to heavy. I got a price quote of $500 shipped to my house with glass tops. Not a horrible deal and something I'd be interested in. If I'm going to go this route anyways it does not have to be 6 foot long, I could go 5 foot something like 60 x 16 x 16 for around 65 gallons. Just trying to get the most optimal environment since the tank could end up housing a pare of mates.
a 100 long spreads the weight out, it is better than a 75 beacause it is 6ft long.

I understand that the longer tank spreads the weight out more which is why I asked about the custom 80. At 6 foot long and 16" deep and tall I'm wondering if it is big enough to house the flowerhorn, I can change the dimensions but the longer the better.

Then why dont just find a simple standard 90g? (48"x18"x24) - You can find the standard 90g anywhere for cheap instead of a custom build or whatever...
Thats what I have my flowerhorn in, and being the only one in the tank, he LOVES it and he'll be in there for life...

If I decide not to go with a 75 then that is the route I'll take. I still may get a 75 custom made with starphire glass and possibly pre-drilled with an overflow.

Yeah, I hear ya...
I can honestly say that the 90g is perfect for a single specimen flowerhorn if not then a female with him, but nonetheless..., there cheap!

And you wont be spending hundreds of dollars of a custom build as well... keep that in mind. - I got my 90g with a stand off craigslist for $140, which was a steal!

Yeah, craigslist around here is insane. There never is much in the way of great deals, there is a 150 for $125 but I just don't have the room for it. Most 75g are listed for $4-500 it makes me laugh. There was a 29 hex for 250. I did scoop up my 55 for $50 with stand hoods filters everything so I did get a good deal there.

Yeah that was a good deal. I got my first 55g with rod iron base stand for 75$ around my area.
I cant believe the price of 75g up there in NJ?....

a 100 long would be perfect. you could go a lot smaller than 100 gallons but it would be very nice for a flowerhorn. You can get them on glass cages. it is 72x18x17. a costum 72x16x16 would be good too. but It would be cheaper to do the 100 long.
