75g Stocking Ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just be sure to get a GT. I have ALWAYS wanted one, and now that I don't have room for one I regret never getting one. Magnificent fish.

I have always wanted an oscar and a bichir - and my newest fish crush is the GT and raph catfish ^.^ so I'm getting my dream fish! No regrets - life's too short - wallet's too thin

The majority of oscars, even if properly cared for, don't get bigger than 13in because of their gene pool. If you have proper filtration that wc schedule is not needed.
Very few JD get bigger than 10in and if it's a female than it's not going to get bigger than 8in. Same thing with the wc schedule
The GT will probably get bigger than 10in, but the same thing with the schedule
Bichir will get around that size but again the schedule
I don't know what's up with that wc routine, but if you have proper filtration you don't need that.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?94937-Aquarium-Filtration-101 I always thought that( at the bottom of mechanical filtration)?

Proper filtration has nothing to do with the wc schedule. The wc schedule is to keep nitrates at a optimum level, remove hormones, etc etc. Proper filtration gets you by till the next wc. I've had 4 oscars 1-12in that I sold (1yr old), 2-14in+ that 1 jumped and the other I gave away(1.5yrs old), My current one is only 6.5-7in grows at 1.125" per month (5months old) with a wc sch of 75% 1x per wk(nitrates were at 15ppm in a 60g) the others were 2 x 50-75% per week to keep nitrates below 20ppm in a 75g.

I've owned all (1-11.5" JD that died, 1-10in GT I gave to a buddy, and a 12in sen birchir that came with a 75g I bought) and this was my schedule without overfeeding with sub adult/adult fish and doing liquid tests keeping nitrates under 20ppm. Most fish don't reach their maximum size or lifespan because they aren't properly housed or their levels aren't kept optimal. We are trying to copy a river environment with our fish being kept in a toilet bowl only way to do that is with wc's. I'll keep track of my dovii and jag...I'm trying to get a 24"+ dovii and a 18"+ jag.

By all means do what you want this is just my personal experience.
