How about a buttikoferi?

They’re awesome, but a 75 would only be big enough for about a year, mine went from 1” to 6” in 5 months.

In that case go for it, they’re very aggressive and interactive. If you don’t mind upgrading for the right fish, a Fahaka puffer could be exactly what you’re looking for. Big, mean AF , highly intelligent and will actually learn to recognize different people. It’s fun to watch them bite thru clams like butter as well.

I wouldn't say "most states". Florida for sure. Many of the other states with restrictions on tilapia are species specific. You bring up a good point though, probably need to check the regs before trying to purchase.

Have you thought about a small school of Exodon? Very aggressive eaters. No solo fish as you asked, but I just thought I’d bring it up.

That’s a beautiful looking fish. Thanks for suggesting though but I went ahead with some red bellys and tiger barbs, can’t wait to see them grow
