770 Gallon Monster Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well now I need to go change my pants:popcorn:

I have not read any bad reviews on the JBJ True Temp heaters. Koienterprise is a member of MFK, why don't you contact them about their heater...

Funny you mention it...I actually paid them a visit this past weekend. The pond they have in front is awesome...they must have 40+ monster koi in there and the way they school/swim together is really a sight to see...I could have sat there all day just watching them. I spoke with Anthony for quite a while...he was very helpful and a stand up guy. I'm the type that likes to do tons of research before buying, so I'm looking for some first hand feedback on all my options. I'm especially interested in the Innovative Heat Concepts submersible, but can't seem to find any reviews on them. I have read a lot of reviews on TrueTemp and I agree with you...almost all positive. How soon will you be able to give your input on the 2 True Temps that you bought (sorry, I'm sure you are tired of hearing that...at least people aren't making the funs of you for keeping goldfish!- lol).

I have three of them....unfortunately no time soon :( :( I was a few years premature in purchasing my filters, heaters, pumps....the equipment room does have two coats of paint, though :) (My living room and front entry is a giant storage unit)

Koi Enterprises was very good to work with. They stored the Clarity CL-3 I purchased for many months...close to a year... until our build had a roof.

If you have pg & e and the smartmeter installed in your home, you can track your electricity costs and usage online. It will tell you how many kwh of electricity you use everyday. It is in the pg & e website. In the past with the mechanical meters, it did not have this option of online tracking of electricity usage per day.

You show up with 90 Benjamin's and it's all yours. But I'm not so sure that putting a catfish that can grow to over 5 feet and weigh over 100lbs (Goonch) would be considered "properly" stocking it. I'd rather see goldfish in it, than a fish that can't even turn around in the tank. :grinno:

I'm going to eat the Goonch way before it gets to 5 feet. I already pre-sold a few fillets to some of my friends. :grinno:

I love my JBJ true temps. I've had no problems and had one for over a year, the other 8 months.

Yup, I've been checking that out over the past few months. My pool pump is a total energy hog...when I run the pool pump for longer than usual, I see a huge spike in my kilowatt hour consumption...I think it uses around 2,100 watts...that's why I'm worried about running heaters...it would be like adding another pool pump in regards to kilowatt consumption and that will break the bank!

I don't think I could do that to a pet that I've spent so much time, energy and money to care for. Or are you just messing around and actually have a pond in the works?

Another vote for JBJ. Thanks for the info.

However, I find it odd that JBJ rates the 1,000W heater for 200-300 gallons yet the 300W Ebo-Jagers are rated for 159-264 gallons. Any idea how the Ebo's would be so much more efficient using only 300W or is it possibly an apples to oranges comparison in that each company is using different parameters for their recommendations?

With the Jagers rating it's a max rating the True temp is a preferred rating. Jag's rating is like a Honda pulling a boat and True temp is like a Diesel truck pulling a boat, they both can but what do you prefer. I am a big fan of the Jagers and have them on all of my smaller tanks, just not my big ones.

Actually, I get this comment a lot so I go with the "fillet" response because it's just as ridiculous. For a true answer, because you called my bluff, the Goonch is a cold water fish and a very slow grower. The Jeremy Wade Goonch everyone has seen on river monsters is an anomaly. To be fair, I would guess it’s over 50 years old and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a lot older!

How about some updated pics :)

hi, awesome tank!
As far as heating it is concerned, as everyone else has said submersible pumps generate a considerable amount of heat, i've heard figures of around 50% efficiency for pumps meaning half the rated power is lost as (mostly) heat. On a tank this size i would be tempted to use a PID temperaure controller to maximise efficiency.
