770 Gallon Monster Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So which of all of them is your favorite fish so far?

I've been using felt pads, but I'll try the microfiber cloth. Thanks for the tip!

I've been using microfiber rags to clean the exterior of the tank with Brillianize (awesome product by the way- gives the acrylic a glass, smooth as ice feeling).

The rags work too but i think they are too thick...meaning they can trap debris. The cloths for electronics/camera lenses are thin/fine...easy to tell if anything is stuck on them. I was skeptical at first b/c i thought they weren't thick enough but gave them a shot anyways...figured it they are safe for something as delicate as camera lenses they should be okay for acrylic.

Man I don't believe I've set here for at lest 3 hr's and read this entire thread. But well worth it to see such an awsome tank progress from start to?well who knows. I understand your concerns with heating but with $$$ invested I diffently would do something so don't quit exsperamenting it will be well worth it as you can already see.
I started out over 43 yrs ago in this hobby with gold fish and I still have some in a 135. I have raised or keep a whole lot of cichlids. I have two reef tanks running biologically one is 120 the other is home made at 355. But my pride is my Tananykian reef set up in a 220. The whole time I was reading your thread i was dreaming what tanganykian set -up your tank would be.
Just think what it would look like with group of zaire blue frontosa"s, two male feather fins w/ 8 females, a haerm of sun burst brachardy's , several synadotis, and of coarse two or three groups of Tropheus moori and duboisi.
It makes for a nateral community tank even when they breed natural selection keeps the population under control.
Awsome tank and set up but I had to dream a little.

wow

well the other day I moved a tank same thickness of acrylic just 500 gallons not almost 800, that things was stupid crazy to get out of his basement, I never thought it would weigh so much, I admire all your movers as those large thick tanks are Stupid crazy heavy.

I really like the movement and schooling of the Wide Bars and the Arulius barbs, but I think my favorite is the Green Terror. He is the dominant cichlid in the tank even though the Texas and Oscar are larger than him.

Gotcha. I'm definitely going to order some of those.

The other day I was thinking the tank was too busy with all the different species I have. Your setup looks awesome dedicated to the single species. I really like the look of the dark substrate; it really makes your fish pop. Awesome tank!

Thick acrylic is some heavy stuff!

+1

Ya green terror is a cool fish. I really need to get my hands on a couple and grow them out somwtime. So I have been thinking about lighting for your tank and since it's out in the pool building and it would be easy I think you should get a couple solar tube lights. Look around online and you will see a few tanks that use them. It's a great idea No cost at all but the setup. Sometimes when I do a cement build that's what I am going to do get a few of these to light the tank. Then if needed you could have other lights on a switch if needed but they would be great and the sun would be your automatic timer also.

I put the Flagtail into the big tank and within 3 days he has eaten almost every trace of algae in the tank! Love this guy, although he seems to be the absolute lowest fish in the hierarchy of the tank (even the little Arulius Barbs punk him). Speaking of the barbs, they made babies, so I have about 20 of them living in my overflows and sump. Those that weren't "lucky" enough to make it into the overflows probably became someone's lunch because I haven't found any swimming in the tank.

I borrowed my GFs camera so this video is in HD.
