Looks amazing! Haven't been on the forum much in a year or more and not surprised this is still a current topic.
And now that I think about it, I remember your the sump thread as well... that was a real page turner too. lol
lol- yeah, who would have thought sumps would be so controversial. Thanks for the kind words.
59 page thread !!! Will have to go back through it. Super tank. Congrats.
I forget how to do it, but there is a way to change the number of posts per page. I made the change a while back so that I wouldn't have to keep clicking the next page on long threads.
Glad you like the tank. It's been a fun adventure. Thanks for the kudos.
I'm deciding on some SDs for my 240g growout for my Asian arowana. I was under the impression that Myleus rubriprinnis (red hook SDs) and Myleus schomburgkii (wide bar SDs) grow to about the same size, both growing up to 10". Where did you see that the red hooks are smaller, and what size did you see them growing to? I may go with some Metynnis fasciatus (striped SDs) anyways, but trying to figure out how big they grow is really confusing. Thanks. Great looking tank by the way. I really appreciate the height and can relate when you say you enjoy viewing from the side of the tank.
I saw your thread on the new 240G. That sounds like a cool setup. I also had trouble finding max sizes for the SD species. I asked ArapaimaG (the guy with the 52k gallon tank) about his Wide Bars
Myleus schomburgkii and he said he's had some for 15 years; his are 12-14".
I had a school of Red Hooks
Myleus schomburgkii for over two years that got to around 6 to 8". A member on here (Gr8KarmaSF) actually bought them from me and I think he still has them; I'm also be curious to hear how big they've gotten. Hopefully he can chime in. I've had the Widebars for less than 2 years and they are considerably larger than the Red Hooks; around 8 to 10" and much thicker. The schomburgkii are more like mini Pacu.
I think typical max sizes are as follows:
ThinBar Silver Dollar 5-7"
Striped Silver Dollar (I have no idea)
Red Hook Silver Dollar 8-10"
Wide Bar Silver Dollar 12-14"
There's also a strain of Green Silver Dollars that were imported a while back that a couple members still have. Not sure what size they get to, but they look cool.
Here's a pic of my old Red Hooks:
Below is a link to ArapaimaG's thread on his SDs; he shares some good info there.

Looking forward to seeing your new setup. The 1000G for Dummies is insane!
