7'x12' 1400 Gallon Plywood Stingray Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just a quick update, everything held water good. I left it filled for about a week and just drained it. Need to do some work on the floor, for some reason some white spots appeared on my nice black floor, going to try and just clean it off with some ammonia and water. Then going to get the plumbing done for the sponge filter and the 65 and 75 tanks and install some more lights. After that the only thing left to do is fill it up and move in some rays.

Any idea of what the white spots might be?

Other than that sounds like your just about finished!

I am not sure, I am thinking maybe something with the pond armor. It only happened on the floor, not on the walls. It was the floor which got the pond armor that was thick like tar.

It seems to come out if you scrub at it enough, leaving the black finish under it.

No I wasn't able to get the white spots out of the floor entirely, lightened them but didn't remove them. So I went to plan B and did a light sand on the floor and painted over it with black sweetwater epoxy paint yesterday. Have to wait a week for it to cure, but it looks great.

Plumbing is done now, going to install the lights today or tomorrow, and then its ready to go once the cure time is up. Will post some pictures of everything after I get the lights installed.

what are the dimensions of the viewing windows? im planning a plywood build and trying to decide on acrylic thickness i should use

The window in the front is 48"x30" and the other two are 72"x30". They are 3/4" thick. I leave about a 3" lip around the windows on all sides, making the viewing height 24".

I have 2 96"x30" windows on my other pond, which has been running about 4 months, done with the same design and 3/4" acrylic and haven't had any problems there either.

Lights are all installed and I managed to hunt down enough power strips to get power to them all. Have a mess of wires for the moment, going to need to get more power strips and organize all the wires. The actual color is more white than blue, for some reason the camera makes some of the pictures look very blue. There is a total of just over 2300 LED bulbs on the pond.

Here are some pictures of the return setup from the sponge filter. I have some adjustable nozzles on the way that will go into the 4 1/2" return holes to create a nice adjustable current. To hold the PVC up I have a wood square made from 2x4s with a pvc pipe coming up through the center and a Union to hold it up. This gives me a way to hold the pipes up at the height I want and still be able to easily remove them by just undoing a couple of unions.

Here are a few pictures of the plumbing for the 2 aquariums sitting on top of the pond. A 3500GPH pump will be used for this, far more than those 2 tanks could support, but thats what I had laying around. So when I did was put a spray bar setup into each of the aquariums and then I put a spray bar into the pond, each with there own ball valve so I can adjust the flow. I will be pumping about 800 GPH through each of the aquariums and then the left over will be put through the spray bar in the pond.

The return from the 2 aquariums is through there overflow boxes, I cut holes in the tables they are sitting on so that the water can just flow straight back through to the pond.

And lastly here is the spray bar I designed to sit just above the window in the front of the pond to make sure I don't get a dead spot there. It will be flowing about 3500 gph spread across 4 adjustable nozzles.
