A single ram needs a minimum of 10g, and double-tripple that for a pair... and the other option would also be overcrowded and you'd have some issues with compatibility.

How about a few dwarf croaking gouramis, a small school (5 individuals) of dwarf corydoras, and a couple otos?

I think shell dwellers would work for that tank size, and apistos may work (not 100% sure though). Your best bet would be to stick with smaller fish, like dwarf gouramis, though.

no i am good. if nothing then i go with salt. :(

Neither of the options are good. Maybe you can have some shrimp instead? How about a few african dwarf frogs? A betta would really like that tank too.

I would go planted with a pair of apisto's. There are soooo many nice ones to choose from. You may even be able to get away with a couple small tetras.

why not try some dario dario. They are not dwarf cichlids but once they get used to the tank they will be active, not to mention that they also look good with their bright color. Then you can go with some pearl danio/galaxy rasbora. With this stock list you can also add some cherry shrimp, or any other dwarf shirmp.
