So after 2 years of trying to decide I finally started construction on my monster tank, thanks to my RTCxTSN, flathead, and blue outgrowing their tanks.

Dimension's are 8'x4'x45". Framing, plywood and prep are done. Three 30 gallon trickle filter sumps are built and now Im ready to start waterproofing. After much thought, I am going with Ames Blue max.

I still need to get glass(not cheap).
Here are a few pics....

Nice build that's going to be a thick piece of glass.

How are you sealing the front viewing window?
I haven't looked into Ames Blue max specifically but I know silicon does not adhere to liquid rubber.
I looked into 3m 5200 marine grade sealant as a possible option.
Others that I know of have done epoxy resin around just the window frame for the silicone to seal the window and liquid rubber on the rest of the tank.

Are you putting tape in the seams as well?

Great work so far.

Im doing epoxy resin on the stop frame for the window. The Blue Max will already coat the existing frame. The stop will then be instilled with G300 WCOM between frame and stop. Im setting the glass and sealing with Chemlink M1. The stuff is incredible and bonds like crazy to both epdm and glass.

Very nice! Subscribed.

One of hardest decisions to make is the pump. I wanted to keep it one large pump with a backup on hand. Thinking about one of the two larger Quiet One pumps. Price is a big concern and these seem reasonable. Does anyone have experience with them? Ive used the Tiny Might by Little Giant before for ponds.

Are you dead set on a submersible?

I run an Evolution ESM 4500 and ESM 5500 pumps on my larger tank. The ES series is cheaper but louder. The ESM uses an american made marathon motor and is very quiet & reliable. Low power consumption as well.

^ Steve at highdesertkoi is a really great guy I've dealt with twice now. He tests all the pumps he sells before shipping them out.

Thanks so much for that info. Im comparing it to the Iron Might pump. I want an external so one of the two will probably be my pick!

If you're on a budget, a pretty cheap waterproofing product that you can buy at Home Depot is a product called red gard. I used it on my plywood and it has held strong for close to 6 months. The color is red, but krylon bonds to it so I just put some black fusion on it. BTW, sweet build thus far :) I love the sumps
