i would say 2 pounds for all including the pike... maybe a pound and a half a day.. hey man big fish eat alot.. you could always cut out the amount of feeding per week but this is only when they reach there max weigh and size
Yeah I know big fish eat big...guess I never looked at it in POUNDS per day tho lol. Ok well what does an average pound of food run...just an average so I fully know what im getting into. Does the food need to be fresh or can it be frozen and thawed? I have been reading up on it all but not completely yet. I just sold my 280 (never got to set it up) because it wouldnt fit in my house it was 6x2x3' front to back with external overflows so it was 42" off the wall. I was always a reef man but lost my 110 in Katrina. Now im looking to keep it a little more simpler with some big ol freshwater fish.
yea i have a reef tank which is basically all sps corals with a few leathers and zoas. i mean you arent going to feed them a pound of food from day one. it gradually increases over time so you dont feel your loss of money all at once lol. the food can be frozen and thawed. once it gets warm out, i catch my own silversides and shrimp.. the shrimp i try to keep alive.. the silver sides i freeze. you could always get them on a big pellet as they get larger as well. i couldnt tell you what your going rate for shrimp cost .. since we are in diff states.. but there is loads of diff things to feed them and you have a good 2 years before your cichla are max size
get cat fish flays and feed that look for other foos like cat fish shimp taplia is a cheap one.. you will ahve too feed about 2.5-3lbs per feeding but only feed every other day
So it can be any cut fish really...whatever is the cheapest...I do have a garage freazer as well so I will probably still try some out. I just finalized the sale of my 280 that wouldnt fit so now I need to get an order together for the new tank. I was going to get it from glasscages...might build my own stand.
Boosten is that one of your fish in the pic...if so what kind...I really like the look of it.
Side note I have a booted 06 mustang gt...well a blown one with a whipple.
you could easily do 4 in that tank with a black arrow.
other mates could be 1 maybe 2 pikes. Bocourti have great colors and easy going. or a mix of severums.
you can easily get to lbs of food as you try to get everyone fed once they get a decent size. good to get them on shrimp or if you fish you can easily get food out the lake. Best to get them on pellets too.
I will keep everyone up to date. I am just hoping I am still going to get a tank this size...the woman has gone on record tonight (as she put it) that she thinks the tank is too big and will look out of place. Honestly it probably will....but most of me really doesn't care about that.
Hey Taz where you at...New orleans? I am from nola but just moved to laffayette 8 months ago.
I do fish....so I can go to a pond or whatever and catch up some things like perch cut them up and use it for food. Do I have to get just meat...or are the bones and skin/scales ok?
Also who can I call to get prices on acrylic tanks this size? I am more a glass man but want to look into it. Its going to be hard to beat the price from glasscages tho. I know they do acrylic but I dont think they look good.
yeah I'm on the westbank. Coral Connections by the airport builds tanks. 2-3 shops here are Tenecore dealers. your tank will be about $3k. me and my bro have been searching as well and glasscages does seem like the best price, glass or acrylic.
I guess perch scales are small enough to leave on, we dont descale trout, but check the bones. if too hard or long I would take em out. my bro even feeds the guts
once they about 8", you can throw crawfish in. His don't even wait for the soft stage anymore.
