Yea I don't think am ready for a monitor maybe in a couple years ill look into one but plated lizards look so cool am doing tons of research on them ill be able to do more after finals though so in about 2-3weeks ill post pics of there enclosure. I have a couple questions though can different types of plated lizards be housed together? Like a yellow throat and giant plated lizard? Also there's not much size info I found in giant plated lizards house big do they get?

uromastyx philbyi...lots and lots of uromastx philbyi

Did a quick Google search on them they look cool but are they docile? I think for this enclosure I have my mind set. Oh and again does anyone know a trusted breeder or a good place to buy plated lizards online or in southern California? Preferably CB

^They're docile, but they run $200 each... LOL

Kingsnake.com has some I think. Dunno how often they're captive bred.

There still docile is wild cought am guessing, but u can house different types together right? I might wanna get one of each different plated lizard

No, you may not house multiple species together. How many times have you asked about hybridisation and mixing already?
Or, if I got you wrong, multiple plateds together may be fine as long as they'd keep about the same size throughout growth.

I ment different types of plated lizards together like I wanted to do 2x yellow throats 2x sadans 2x giants (all plated lizards). Is their any more diffent kinds am missing out on?

I think you should do less. Instead of looking at the increase in gallons, a 8'x6' tank isn't that much more generous with floor space. 3-4 maybe.

I would ditch the grass and go with a monitor specie. Black throats, savannas, and water monitors tend to be docile if frequently worked with. Do some research on those and let me know what you think.

Agreed.
Monitors are the way to go if your able to have an enclosure that size.
Im not soo sure about other monitor species as i have only kept tegus and savs, but if you go with a sav make sure you provide enough substrate for it to dig a burrow especially if its a female, which means a minimum 6-8" of dirt/sand mix but about a foot is better.
If you want docile i would not recommend a tegu from my experience.

You don't want anything too big, even for that cage if you want to maintain the grass substrate. I would recomend 2.3 Plated Lizards. I used to maintain a group in a large outdoor cage and they were so interesting to watch.

Whatever you get though I would HIGHLY discourage you from taking out for field trips to the LFS. This is a good way to injure and stress your animals and at the very least, risk exposing them to pathogens that could infect your entire herp collection.

:iagree: yeah i learned the hard way to take your reptiles out my 6 foot python was sweet as could be at home but i decided to take her down the strip because a lot of people do it and she got super stressed and bit me not too fun but yeah like everyone else said i would go with a monitor just be careful they are escape artists good luck in whatever you choose!
