90 Gallon - Overstocked or OK?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you should be ok...but i would keep a close eye on your fire mouth. i had a small one with a jd and i is now missing...

was actually considering another firemouth but don't know what would happen. Have a bad feeling about that especially if it ends up being a mated pair

was also considering some "dither fish" something to distract them but quick enough to avoid being dinner. Would that be a possibility? Rosy Barbs or something like that? I've heard of people using tinfoil barbs but they get big and I'd be worried about the increase in bio-load

Would you recommend putting the small cichlids in first for a month or so before placing the bigger JD in with them? My thought was that the smaller fish couold establish themselves and get comfortable before they have to deal with the bigger JD. Is this the best way to approach this tank stocking?

yea, one would think this would be better. but i think all they'll really need is a week to get settled before the JD goes in there.

you want to put the more timid fish in the tank first.

That way they will have time to establish territories and become familiar with the tank.
Then they'll have a head start.

As far as Canisters. There are a lot that are less expensive. Just shop around and look at online fish stores.

But Canisters are MUCH more efficient than HOB. They hold a LOT more bio media as well. Its really a good idea to do one HOB and one Canister.
