900 gallon update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Could you answer a few questions on your set up? I'm looking to do the same filtration.:)

  1. How loud is the pump/Ultima's?
  2. What pumps are you using? gph in each and brand?
  3. What would you have done differently besides the ceiling height?
  4. How easy is the backwashing?
  5. Would you have drilled from the bottom for plumbing? or do you like going from the back of the tank.
  6. How tough was the plumbing?
Sorry for the 21 questions - great tank!:)

The ulimats are not loud, the pumps are what makes the noise. I have a reeflo and a dolphin pump, there not to loud, or i dont notice it atleast. Plus they both sit under a cabinet so i dont here anything. Backwashing is easy just hook up a pip and flush, takes like 5 min. to drain 700 gal. but take 3 and half hours to fill it back up haha

I like the holes on the back, they are east to work with plus if the gasket fails the whole tank wont empty put the ultima is a pressure system so coming from the bottom might look weird since its a bare tank. Plumbing was a pain mostly because of space and Im not very good at measuring, and it didnt help that i had faulty parts and had to go back and forth to home depot like 100 times. Other than that I really like it now, i may add a bigger mechanical filter to clean out more of the fine particles but other than that the tank circulates well.

Great stuff thanks!

I'm presuming you had this tank shipped out from the mainland US? I'm on expecting an actual price (I get pissed when people ask how much stuff cost too!) but can you give me an idea of what the shipping cost was like in relation to the cost of the tank? Thats pretty much my dream set up, the dimensions, the filters, but unfortunately none of that stuff is available here and I'm almost certain shipping it would make it stupidly expensive.
Some more pics of the filter set up would be great!
