911 Help! Barb through head

Not sure what to do as I don't know where the brain and other vital organs are. I know I won't be able to pull it out the bottom and I don't want to make a large tear pulling out out if the brain is close or something.

This girl is huge and this barb is from my male. I havn't examined the belly, but to be protruding this far I am guessing the barb will not be visible from underside.

She's acting fine. swimming and playing. I think she has been breeding too.

That sucks bad. I was just gonna ask you how this big girl was.....

Ever have any luck with pups from her yet?

Hope she does OK..... :(
 
i think there are tiny little barbs on the spike it will probably have to be pulled out from the tip of it so it doesnt cause tearing but i wouldnt like to guess how close to the organs would be to it
 
Mike ,after talking with you i think she'll be fine ,hopefully you find the Jungle Hypno to put her asleep for a while so you can pull it out .If you do give her a salt water bath before putting her back into the pond to help flush the wound .

I have urged her into a tub and hoiseted her out and have her in the kitchen. I installed 2 pieces of tubing on her 2 barbs for my own safety.

There is no detectable entrance wound that I can find on the belly and I'm concerned as to how I will extract this.

So far I have added 3 bag buddies to her water in the tub for lack of a proper sedative. My hope is that I can reach in through her spiracle and have enough room to pull it downward, but I'm not cutting the tip until I can find a way to get in there to see. I may just poke my finger in her spiracle and see what I can feel.

I'm trying to take my time and first make sure she will tolerate all of this...not sure how well the clove oil in the bag buddy will work and I can't OD her on it...

I may have to get her out of the water onto a turkey platter or something...I hate that idea. This thing seems to be in a decent spot as far as not hitting her brain or anything, but not being able to access the end of the barb is concerning.

Al- Now that I have seen her underside...I can say for sure that my male has gotten to her....so we'll see if she gets pregnant. I hope so, she's a great girl!

ok, I have had my pinkie finger as far as I can reach into her spiracle. I cannot access the big end of the barb in any way, so I have 2 options I can see and I have I suppose an hour or 2 before I need to do something one way or the other.

I can cut the barb off flush and leave it there...or I can rip it through the top and be done with it.

For now, she's settling back down after me fingering her spiracle...

HAted it...the options sucked...so I pounded a beer and grabbed on with my long needle-nose pliers and pulled it out.

She's upset now, but seems no worse... I'll keep an eye on her for a bit longer and then put her back. I think she'll be fine, she's a warrior.

Thanks for all the input and especially Shawn for dealing with me while I was freaking out over this... What happens now happens, but I think she'll be un-phased.
