I just purchased a 950g pond pump. I plan on using it in a 500g tank (4 Pacu, 1 Silver Arro, Few other little guys...) It should be enough, right?

I plan on having outlets in the tank that drain into a collector/filtration(a rubbermaid tub with all kinds of filtering goodies) and the pump will sit in the tub, at the bottom, and will bring the water back up to the tank. a 950gph should be fine. right? I have 2 12,000gph pumps but I have been told they are way over powered and they suck too much electricity anyway...

The box says its rated for a 1900g pond...

in an enclosed system like a tank I would shoot for 1500gph or a bit higher.

is that pump rated at 0' head? If so it will definitely not be enough.

BTW: I also plan on having an extensive aerator system along with above-water fans to create currents, and ultimately replicating a natural habitat... I'm more worried about this pumps ability to pump water at a sufficiant pace and rid the tank of ammonia.

info on the box...

0' head? sorry. noob here.

what is the rating in gpm or gph of this pump ??

wide open is 0 feet of head or lift ( pumping on level ground)

it should also having a rating at different head heights.....

5 feet 10 feet etc.... meaning that is how high the water is lifted... which requires energy so less water flow...etc

ime i would look for a pump for the main filter of at least
2000 gph ( 4 turns per hour)

The required pictures...
wayne950.jpg

HPDischarge Head 0'5'10'15'1/6Gallons/Hour 950/825/790/660

this shows the output at different heights or back pressure caused by tubing fittings etc

so by the time its hooked up figure you may get 500 gph....ime
