Are you opposed to acrylic? You could get a whole sheet of 3/4" for under $700. I thought glass was cheaper lol over 1k is alot for the piece you need.

Toyota, my understanding of safety factor is...

Say your tank has 3000 lbs of pressure pushing down and out at the bottom of the tank. A safety factor of 3 means that, theoretically, the tank should hold three times the pressure (9000 lbs) before bursting. The problem with online calculators for safety factor is that they aren't designed for plywood tanks.

Someone correct me if I'm talking out of my ass. I'm still learning about tank building.

I'm not sure how different the calculations for a ply or framed tank would differ from an all glass tank, but there is a link on the page I posted that explains all the maths and theory behind the calculator. Is think that the glass window being fully supported by a rigid frame would be better, but the basic premise of the height of the water putting pressure on the glass will be the same. You could still use the calculator to work out the thickness of glass needed, and I think the worst thing that would happen is it ends up slightly over-built.

We are on the same page. The glass is supported better, but the main difference is no glass bottom and the window doesn't usually go to the bottom of the tank. Also the water doesn't go to the very top of the tank.

Exactly, except it makes more sense to me to use the dimensions of the exposed viewing window area plus however many inches the water goes above the window instead of using the full height of the tank.

I was planning on over building it anyways. 2x4 frame the entire thing with 2x4 ribs and fiberglass the whole inside. It's going to be built over the next couple months so I can save as I go. There's another member that's currently building a tank the same dimensions for his GAFT. Can't remember his name right now lol but I was going to follow his thread and copy it just maybe do the full 36".
