a 16 year old's attempt at cichlid keeping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
gorgeous tank :) i guess the oscar and the jag might get cramped in there as they grow perhaps? i dont know man, but that is one beautiful tank :)
Thank you so much... May go with something bigger in the distant future. Maybe an indoor cichlid pond or something:)

Not bad at all. If you ever find yourself having bio issues as your fish and feedings grow, find a way to suspend those pot scrubbies outside the water in the path of the drip, they are more effective that way. That said not a bad job at all, have fun with this, and be prepared to adapt with your stock.

The drip system certainly helps a lot with the bio load. I will keep that in mind though:) thank you.

That's way better than the tank I had at 16. My tank was a 10 gallon with about 100 guppies in it (I started with 3 and the SOB's multiplied like crazy!) and I didn't know about water changes or bio filtration back then.

I've come a long way since then.

looks like a nice setup. Have you tested to see of the sump will overflow if the power goes out? water looks pretty high. I'm as well against the stock, it may work for a little while but once a hierarchy is established it may not go so well

If you look at this picture at the top left f the sump, there is a bulkhead that goes down through my floor that keeps my water lever in the sump constant so I don't need a float switch or anything for the automatic drip system. If the power goes out and the water rushes into the sump it all goes right out the bulkhead and outside:) so basically, the sump can never overflow.
