interesting thread....

i also own a 9" silver....
so what preventive measures would u guys suggest to me....

n i also read somewhere that, DE is also caused by excess of fat....is that true????

Clean water, healthy diet, large tank and hope for the best. No real cause for DE is known so you can only provide the above. Wtih aros kept in ponds the chance of head bashing is greatly reduced, but in most cases ponds are not practical.

thanks buddy....
n what about the fat factor....or is that all a load o bull..

Well that would fall under the healthy diet. Keep the live feeder goldfish to a mininal to help reduce fat. Again there are numerous theorys to the cause of DE, The "excess fat" is only one of them.

Try adding colored fishing foam bobbers/floats (little ones) I have about 4 1" ones floating around. Feeding insects and floating food makes them look up more, in case this is even a factor. I've had 3 Aro's without d.e., and one that got it did so as a result of an instantaneous head injury, bingo, it worsened but now that eye has a fat buildup above the eye and the eye faces dramatically down, like all he can see is straight down.

As you can see, there are many opinions, statistics aren't in our favor with Silver's, (until we know more) so good luck. If it happens, it's really no big deal, it's not ugly, it's still your same precious Aro.

Best of luck to you.
