A couple drip system questions.

OK so I have been thinking, maybe I should use a sump with some sort of sump pump. The reason is that I have been reading a bit on the filtration of chlorine and chloramine and have rethought my plan.

Chlorine is not really as much of a problem as far as filtration of the chemical as chloramine is. chloramine being bonded Chlorine and Ammonia is difficult to break down. Some filters say they can break that bond leaving chlorine and ammonia behind. Then if it runs through a good carbon filter, the chlorine will be reduced, but the ammonia is left behind.

If I put the drip into the the inlet of the a well established wet/dry sump filter wouldnt that reduce the ammonia through biological filtration?

I think you dont even need to put it right into the sump. The amount of ammonia introduced by the drip would be less than a big fish pissing.

I'm using a sump pump in my DIY wet/dry that will fluctuate the level in the sump about 4". The pump would only have to cycle 3 or 4 times a day, and would be controlled by a float valve

I'll get pix up as soon as I'm done with it.

yeah I was thinking. Water in aging tanks need 24hrs for the chlorine and chloramine to dissolve. If im dripping 24 gallons of water a day which is only 10%, the combination of the filtration I plan on using to reduce chlorine and chloramine and the fact that it will be diluted in the tank will make the levels of of those chemicals not very significant. And if you say the amount of ammonia produced is small, then I have nothing to worry about.

It will take longer then 24 hours to get chloramine to dissapate.

You should allways drip into the tank so that you get the best results.

Thats right.. I forgot about that. I remember reading that somewhere.

Dripping into a sump would be bad?
