A COUPLE RED TAIL CAT QUESTIONS!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It depends on the size. He will eat anything that will fit into his mouth. It wouldn't be good for the turtle, obviously, but it could also cause the catfish to throw up, fouling your water and possibly killing your fish. As for the original topic, I'm still not sure where you're putting this in your home, but you'll most likely need to consider the cost of a dehumidifier in with your budget. They cost from two to three hundred dollars, and most need to be emptied about twice a day. Without it, you'll get mold growth on the walls and ceiling, and anything in the room is subject to moisture damage.

oh its not gonna be in my house its gonna be in the garage, im going to be moving out soon and im turnin my garage into a stoner lounge with a huge monster tank and a pool table!

Here is a thought that just hit me , you may want to skip the pacu cause I just got done hand feeding my rtc ,he's 19 inches. I brought him from from a lfs that took him in cause the owner could not house him any more and I had a note up with the store that I was looking for a rtc of about 8 to 10 inches, he was 14 inchs when I got him last march. Can't believe the size he has put on so fast, and how friendly he is, I tap the inside of the pond and he swims to my hand whiskers going like crazy, he sucks Kens sinking pellets out of my hand along with shrimp, scallopes, earthworms anything. Yes the food bill is increasing but that goes with keeping monsters. My point is think about keeping one big fish and having the reward of watching it reach its full potential, also it will see you as the provider and its really cool when your fish comes to your hand to get its belly rubbed or lets you pat its head..
Welcome to MFK er's and ask all your questions we are here to help..

i probably would have skipped him but i already have him so its my responsibilty now, along with 2 peacock bass. so my 1000 gallon build, is going to be an amazon river monster theme probably consisting of 2 p bass, 2 pacu, & 1 redtail, and hopefull if i can find 1 a tropical or florida gar for my top swimmer thats 6 monsters in a 1000 gallon tank. anymore fish than that im thinking is juss ignorant. the demensions im thinking of is something aroun (haven calculated yet) 11 feet long, 4 1/2 ft wide & and prolly 4 ft tall. what are your opinions on that?

IMO the two pacu and red tail are maxing out at about ten feet, total. Therefore, you'd pretty much be done stocking with just those three. The gar would probably get eaten unless he was already gigantic (like four feet). The more fish you add, the more turnover your tank requires, and the more huge water changes you have to do. I would build the thing, start stocking with only the fish you currently have that you want to put in there, and then add fish one at a time. Actually, I wouldn't try to put all of those fish in there, but that's just me.

lol you 4got about m 2 p bass too!! i kno im startin to get a headache thinkin about this. anyways lets get back to my 60 gallon it says that my powerhead alone is turning 350 gallons an hour plus i found that my AQUATECH HOB filter turns over 330 gallons per hour so all together thats 680 gallons per hour turnover right? is that kool for my 60?

If you had a test kit, you would know. Get the test kits, and test the water. If your ammonia or nitrite is above zero, or your nitrate is above 40, then it is not enough. That's really the only way to know. And test weekly, because it may be okay now, but in a couple of months, it may not be... especially with the RTC. I know you say that you want to keep your fish, but if you took him back to the LFS, it would give you time to do this project without having to worry about being in a hurry because he's growing so fast. Then you could go and get another one if you wanted. Or you could purchase, as I said before, a 125 off of CL, put just him in it, and be good until he hits 16 or so inches. These are just suggestions.

And I didn't forget about the bass. I left them out because, to me, those ten feet of fish would be your pond's limit. Not those ten feet plus two bass.
