Good point, but another way to put it is "it's new so I want to try it" ;)

Yeah I agree. I understand we need those type of people to help make the world go round. And there's nothing wrong with it when it comes to say....electronic gadgets and new technology goodies. But when when it carries over to living creatures it's different. After the next new thing comes around, they get bored with it and it ends up dying an early death in some kids 20g tank.

Anyways........PICS!!!! :D:D:D

I think they are nice looking fish. A little to much for me to pay though. I'm not big on paying more then $25 for anything unless it is pretty good sized anymore. I can wait:). I don't think $50 for the small ones is terrible though since they are so rare. If they were $25 I would jump on a few of them though.

As far as the people buying the new great thing. Some people need that to keep them interested, others do not. As long as they are taking good care of them I'm fine with that. The problem seems to be that often they do not get that good of care. I remember when Rapps came out with the Rio Tepic Beani. A lot of folks bought those. Were are they now? I haven't seen a picture of one of them in forever. I see pictures of a few other Beani types but not them. Just kind of makes we wonder if most of the poor things are not dead.

I'd bet 90% of those Beani are dead. They've been issuey for me too and mine are big. Beani are not for the inexperienced. In fact I'd say a lot of the rare species should only be kept by experienced hobbyists.

That's what I figured. That's to bad. No wonder they disappeared from the hobby the first time.

I lost about 40 small Beani when they were first available years ago.
Even knowing what I know now they are still particular.

yeah +1, i would love to have beani and even though i would technically know how to care for them for the most part, i still dont think im experienced enough to attempt them, so i leave them to the experts...for now :) but yeah some people just dont realize their limitations and try on all these super hard to keep fish when they don't know how to care for them just because they are the newest craze and sadly its the fish that pay for it

why are beani so difficult???
because they bloat very easily when young

as for the ornatum, i dont have the space or anything for them and would definitely wait till their price goes down a bit anyways but has anyone who has raised these guys had trouble with them? like do they have any weird health concerns like beani do?
