hey, how nocturnal are they? very? i ask because what im think is this: i assume toadfish are fairly inactive during the day, enough so for me to not expect to see it move much at all during the daylight hours (maybe) and if that is so then i would want some moon lights to watch it in the evening and at night. my question is, how skittish of light are they? see, iv got two banjo catfishes, and when i put a blue moonlight over my tank it is still enough light to keep them from roaming around at will. its very annoying to pretty much not ever see my banjos swimming. i understand if toadfish like to just chill during the day but i don't want to get another banjo type (despite the fact that they are my favorite fish). so, if i had one in say a forty gallon with two white (for regular viewing instead of tinted a certain color) LED moonlights, do you think that might be too much for it and cause it to just keep on sitting there all through the night unless a timer turned them off? in other words, im expecting to be able to enjoy watching this fish at night under moonlights... but will moonlights scare the little buggar? lol thanks.
Leons tank actually sits right next to my bed, so I get to watch him swim at night when the lights are out. Usually I have a tv on and the light just barely illuminates the tank.
They don't really move at all during the day, other than to eat or hunt. They just change locations in the tank a few times. But at night time, they swim at all levels of the tank and are extremely active.
As far as moon light goes, I think it would work fine as long as there is just barely enough light to see him with. Too much and it may not be as active as you'd like to see it
thanks. if there's enough light for you to actually watch him then he's more outgoing than my banjos, i don't get to watch them swim pretty much at all.
Yeah, but it could also be part of his personality too. I'd have to keep several of them before I could really state facts about the species. My info just comes from my experience with this individual fish.
I plan to eventually get an orange toadfish though and maybe a leopard toadfish also though because of my success with Leon and all the enjoyment I've had with him
