Basically what you are trying to get into is sub genres of the basic "metal." Like andy1234 mentioned, you cannot forget the early pioneers that have paved the road for what metal/rock has evolved today.This newer kiddie radio crap, including the band discussed in this thread is not really metal, more so a product of a corporation created to increase profits by attracting "emo" kids. Other examples include: Disturbed, linkin park, papa roach, etc etc.
Ever notice how when you listen to one song from these bands, they not only sound the same across the whole 12-13 tracks on their album but all the other similar bands in the industry? Trash, just trash my friends.
Do yourself a favor and pick up the new Opeth album. Some real metal meets progressive virtuosos.

disturbed and linkin park were both good when they first came out but quickly got old, but what i see good bout nu metal is it wat started me into metal. my first cd i ever bought was godsmack's awake back when i was in 6th grade ever since then im addicted. i like metal all over the place.
if your wanting to get into metal check my myspace i have christian, black death, grind, thrash, hardcore(they cant be to emo) numetal and hard rock. you have something there for every situation.
