a giant gourami and an albino oscar in the same tank?

if divided in half, then that means its only 2.5 foot long space which is too small for anything over 6 inch.

While I do agree that a 5 foot tank is way to small for an O and a GG your implied 2.5 foot per 6 inch rule is a little ridiculous. If that was true a 8 foot 300 gallon or so tank would only be sufficient for one 16 inch fish according to what you said. I think those who are keeping multiple PBass, or comm. of SA/CA cichlids as well as a slew of others on here would disagree with you.

OP you ask a lot of questions yet always seem adamant about doing what you want anyway. The sand thread everyone told you go PFS(Pool Filter Sand) to go cheap and safe yet you insist on going with beach sand and then when people tell you how to clean it properly you tell them that's too much work?? Here you ask if it's okay to house a GG in a tank with an O yet don't mention as you did in other threads the Snakehead and Red Devil that are currently housed with the O. Even with omitting them people are telling you you need a very large tank for the GG alone especially if you wish to comm. him with the O yet you say here the Red Devil and O are fine with it and one can assume now you plan to add the GG despite the advice?? Why ask for advice if your going to insist everything is fine and you think the GG will be fine till you repair your other tank? Never mind the fact that you've only mentioned one dimension of your tank(the length) so it's impossible to give you any accurate advice knowing only one dimension of a tank.

Only Pole is truly capable of setteling this issue. Right Pole? :o

what I said is that a 2.5 long tank can only house 6 inch fish maximum.

No, I quoted you and that's not what you said.

Which is not the same as a 2.5 foot tank can only hold one fish(which by the way is also wrong, so it doesn't really matter which you said). Your quote was in response to the OP saying he was going to keep 2 fish in a 5 foot tank. So you responded by saying the above "if divided in half, then that means it's only 2.5 foot long space which is too small for anything over 6 inch". Which implies 2 fish in a 5 foot tank only have 2.5 feet in which to live in since there's 2 fish and the only combo that would work would be anything under 6 inches. Without knowing the other dimensions of the tank and your quote doesn't consider them nor does your "revision" both responses are wrong. Makes me regret defending you making unfounded statements as simply a one off as apparently you'll throw incorrect posts out there when ever the mood hits you and defend them as well despite knowing your wrong.

if you re read the OP youll see the tank is divided in half, one half for Oscar and one half for a red devil. I never said a 2.5 foot tank can only hold one fish.

i was planning to buy a juvenile giant gourami about 3", and was thinking if it is okay putting it with an albino oscar at about 2". it's in a 5 foot long tank. split it half with a divider with a red devil on the other half . is it a bit small for giant gourami to live with the oscar? need some suggestions from the pros. hahah :)
highlighted that part of the post.

There you go, to show how poor your writing is as again you never specified anything and I even quoted you twice to show it and how poor your reading comprehension is I highlighted my response. Both answers are wrong and you wonder why your getting a reputation for making unfounded statements. Even with the inclusion of the divider in your answer you'd still be incorrect. That's why with approx. twice the post count as you have I don't have a reputation for making incorrect statements, because I do my best not to do make definitive statements about things I don't know. Now if you wanna throw down on experience or keep up defending your ridiculous statement we can take it to PM as I do not wish to continue derailing the OP's thread.

Sorry to stick my oar in here. .. OP said 5 foot tank. Split in half. One half red devil one half oscar. Asked could he add gg to oscar side? Correct? By my calculations half of 5 foot is 2.5 foot. Poles statement was that 2.5 foot is only big enough for 6 inch fish. Now while im sure length of fish to length of tank ratio is both debatable and dependant on fish activity etc. It was, to me at least, obvious that pole meant 6 inches is about as large a fish as you should keep in that size of a tank. Which isn't unreasonable. I'm not sure where the misunderstanding is.
