70 bucks a pop can get you a wild hoplarchus

i would agree ramsdeni - never seen one
beani are nearly impossible to get
i'm sure wild caught discus are not as common as before since it's so commercialized now, so it's not that they are rare per se, but the demand isn't as high now that they are bred so often.
i'm sure some of the malagasy cichlids are highly endangered and thus pretty hard to get

the list can go on. i think i read on WW that there was some dude with a pair of Cichlasoma steindachneri that is supposed to be super rare.

It really depends on if you mean rare to the hobby or rare in the wild. There are alot of fish that are rare to the hobby (especially in the states) but not rare in the wild. I can think of a couple of Crenicichla that are super rare to the hobby in the states. Tigrinas and Rosemaries are first to come to mind. I know the Tigrinas were sold to Japan @ 1500 a pop with a minimum order of something like
4-6 pieces.

Margaritifer, the red form of dovii, and a few others are hard to find even in nature. Beani is a common fish in the wild; it's just not been exported much recently.

I would have to say..Herichthys Minckleyi are pretty rare to come by..
