i have a dog. he has feelings. people with no feelings. never heard did of that one
 
Personally I have no problem with raising horses for their meat, but I am opposed to cruel treatment to all animals, even if it is right before slaughter. There is a more humane way to kill them, and then there is abuse and torture for the sake of being evil-there is a huge difference between the two. Recently here the state legislature passed a group of laws making it illeagal to obtain a job at a slaughterhouse or farm where livestock is being raised for the purpose of making hidden videos featuring torture and inhumane treatment of the animals. This was a result of some horrible videos of people abusing chickens were released by an imbedded journalist last year. Keep in mind, these laws don't make the treatment of the animals illeagal, only the hidden taping of the abuse. Ladies and gentlemen, this is our legal system at it's finest.
 
First I want to say that I am a huge horse lover. I grew up with them and owned a few before I had children. With that being said I would have no issues with horse slaughter IF it was conducted in a humane manner. With the way the horse market is now horses are being neglected/abused/left for dead all the time. I'd much rather see those poor beautiful creatures slaughtered humanely than starved to death. In a prefect world all animals would be humanely slaughtered but this just isn't the case unfortunately :(

Yeah thatd work......

Dont get me wrong, I hunt. I love hunting. My family also raises animals to slaughter (personally I do not. I raise my chickens for the eggs only). This idea would NEVER work with our population today. Its simply not possible. On top of that you have the sick, mentally ill/handicapped, elderly etc, that need full time care. So you take multiple people out of the hunting/gathering, requiring more people to take thier place. Ever hunt in the mountains? Success is not guaranteed. Its just not feasible for 90% of the populace. This is comming from someone who grows and hunts and wants to do even more.
 
I don't particularly have problems with eating all sorts of different meat. I do question people who would eat their pets ;)

As for horse slaughter, the original ban on horse slaughter has some very nasty unintentional consequences; instead of having a local place do it, the horse gets shipped to distant places to get slaughtered.

on this note i will close this discussion.......... yes if it were a perfect world.. if only.. i think every day things are getting better though.. it is just a slow process.. just saving a few is progress.. so opening our eyes and sharing even stuff we do not want to watch because it is disturbing can help ...that is my only motive here.. someone who cares will spread the word and some one will think twise about what will happen to their horse down the road when they sell it... just like only a few dogs are saved in the vast scheme of things.. maybe a few horses won't reach this awful fate.. i am saving a few chickens.. i have saved a cow... i wish i could save them all.. and you are right ..neglect is far worse then slaughter.. death thier pain is over... neglect their pain goes on and on...... thats why i feel so strongly about this torture.. it is not right to be cruel to any of our creatures... even ones destined for meat..
