Sorry but you're confusing me. You bought the fish off the fisher man who caught it. The fish was caught in the Mekong basin, in Cambodia, but you're in Vietnam?
So did you buy the fish while you were in Cambodia or did the fisher man come all the way to Vietnam to sell you the fish?

Seems to good to be true.

Can we see a picture of your new fish actually in your tank?

No I and fisherman are in province near border VietNam and Cambodia. The fisher man caught DATs in the Mekong basin, in Cambodia. They are the best friend. The DATs are exported to Japan. They are not bought in Viet Nam.
ps:There are som the best DATs that you can see detail. Please click here "

yes all of them are ST whose size is about 3 cm. These ST that i can't buy so are very small. I bought a ST that was on fisherman hand.

they all look to have IT tail stripe at that small size its hard to tell

they maybe ST or a very good grade 3 bar IT

when they are 10cm it will be easy to tell what they are as they should be stable all the time at 10cm

i have a IT that has the same sort of tail Patten as the ones in the link

please share pictures again in 6 months

all that said as ST are so rare in the wild if they are ST and have only just started to show up again do you think its a good idea to start fishing them again now or maybe leave it for another year to let the stock regain numbers

vu tt. Thanks in advance for when you do post pics of that baby ST in your home aquarium.
Look forward to your next pics.

T1karmann we both know even if he didnt pick one up all of the ones up for grabs will never make there way back to the wild and will just be sold to someone else. You cant stop what cant be stopped.

thats not my point my point is if you take pictures then let it go and pass on the information to the people interested in saving ST don't go out and catch another 99

if fishing like that starts in this new location it wont take long to wipe them out from there

lets face it at $100 the fisherman is making next to nothing at what he could make this cheap price will just have people wanting to buy thousands

^ If he's Cambodian in his terms he's making a lot of money unfortunately.
I must admit I’m skeptical but I’m not disregarding this as nonsense. I would expect they’ll end up in Chatuchack (jj) market here in Bangkok if they’re still out there in any numbers. I went yesterday after reading this and spoke to the guy who always has NTTs in great numbers; he gets them from the Mekong at Nakorn Pratom on the border of Laos. He said “never seen them”. There is quite a lot of border between Cambodia and Thailand, so if there is money to be made they’ll be here soon.
A few vendors had small fish exactly like the pictures on the linked web site, they were selling them as STs, but under questioning admitted they were indo but they were adamant they were exactly like STs and were willing to argue.

My own thoughts, not long ago and Indonesian poster told us all of how many indos had been caught while I was trying to follow up rumors of farm bred here. He said there were too many and the middle man couldn’t sell them. Based on what I saw yesterday I think the high quality 3 bar indos have been separated and are now being touted as STs, there were quite a few. I also find it strange how T1K has documented slight differences in ST and CT but the image here shows none. In addition on a very old thread started by a Thai guy about STs and captive breeding, he also wrote there were differences. He wasn’t lying about anything IMHO, apart from fish being bred in captivity, they’re not, but I believe they’re close. He wrote the research facility in Bungborapetch was using some CT for attempted breeding purposes, but not for release in the wild. I also think is a strange coincidence there was another thread made by someone claiming to have baby STs caught in northern Vietnam on the border of Thailand, when it’s not even a bordering country. As T1k pointed out the pictures have now been removed. I understand now why everyone was asking me for Photos, I now want to see them. I hope it is ST, I really do. But after chasing ghosts here I’m skeptical.

STs are the holy grail of the Dat world. I bet there **** load of em in Elvis’s pond, and him and Bruce Lee love nothing more than fishing them out with a few beers! LOL
