A little filtration issue.

They mean a system that grows algae to remove nitrAtes from your water. There's a post in DIY on here somewhere about it.

Here's a link to the water changer I made for my custom faucet. http://thegab.org/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=140&jfile=viewtopic.php&f=42&t=22082

You can buy a python, or even just a faucet attachment (9.99 at petsmart, I believe, by Aqueon.) I had to make one, since my faucet does not have a conventional spigot, and I was tired of lugging buckets! Also, about the water bill, mine only increase by about 10 dollars per month going from no tanks to over 300 gallons of fish tanks total, and that's including 2-3 wc's per week on the 125 and 90 gallons.

Save your money, don`t get a canister.
Save some time and grief, don`t try to build a denitrator or algae scrubber.
The canister won`t do a thing to help with nitrate levels. It will make filter cleaning a whole lot more interesting.
All that gunk you have been banging out of your simple to clean HOB will be hidden away in a hard to clean container.
What most posts on denitrators and such fail to mention is the long lag time between putting them in service and seeing any results.
Often the results are very disappointing compared to the time put into it.
Up to you.

Then what would you suggest given that the time to do water changes is limited to 2 days a week.

You're the only one that doesn't seem to like the ideas I'm putting up... can you please explain?
