A New Cleaning Strategy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Felix has cleared up entirely, after a few rounds of antibiotics,
Which probably strained my good bacteria.
Anyhow he is fine again and eating properly,
I am setting up his 240 system to change about 10% per day automatically.
I can put that right on my trees.

Also I will probably just add a small amount of Bio-Clean to the system whenever I feed the fish, rather than add it in spoonfuls every week..

Oh, Dave, it all cleared up and 7 mos later he quit eating and died!

RIP Felix, age ~7 years. Emaciated.

I have nothing but theories. He had no lesions, no holes in the head, no fin rot, and was eating vigorously for over six months.

Then he slowly quit eating and that was it. After about four weeks he was gone

I treated him with Prazi Pro and a couple different antibiotics, but the thing is none of the other 200 fish in the 240g system got sick except him.

Perhaps he sucked down too many guppies and mollies and impacted himself. I couldn’t bring myself to cut him open. Stupid really, because I slaughter much bigger fish every time I go to the lake.

By the way I am doing multiple daily small water dumps from the 240g system, dripping RO water in, and all that waste water is going to water my redwood trees. About 50g per day so over 20% daily removed. The fish & redwood trees are looking very healthy, and Felix is buried out there under one of them in the pet cemetery.

In the cemetery, looking back at the house, from what we now call Felix’s tree.

The funny perspective and fisheye lens effect of the camera makes my red fences look parallel, but the truth is they come to an angle of about 45°, 16 feet behind where I am standing, taking the photo.

Anyhow, in plan view the pet cemetery is sort of kite shaped.

Beautiful place you have! Congrats.
Thank you FJB. It was a fixer upper when we bought it in 2002. We’ve been fixing 22 years on this one.
Looking out at the redwood trees and the pet cemetery.

I planted five redwoods the year we moved here and re-planted this middle one that didn’t survive.

When I saw you get 3 tigers from Petco I sorta figured he may have passed.
