A personable cichlid for my 75 gallon tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would this work (cutting back a bit on cichlids):

1 green severum
1 either blue acara or gold severum
6 giant danios
1 striped raphael cat
1 spotted raphael cat
1 jaguar catfish
1 saulfin pleco (1.5 years)

temp: 76
ph: 7.6
wc: weekly 40%

I know I'm pushing it now but......how about instead of the sev and a acara..........a breeding pair if sevs since I know they are more passive than most cichlids?

A breeding pair would still get territorial so no other cichlids but it may work but with all those catfish don't expect eggs to survive

No other cichlids of course just the danios as DITHER. As long as a few fry make it I'll be happy :)

Don't expect the eggs to survive. As soon as it gets dark the cats will get them

Breeding sevs would work, but there will be no fry that survive with all those cats you've got in there. Not even a few.

Sevs lay their eggs on a flat surface correct. I could just take out whatever they laid the eggs on and put it in a breeder net I have that would go in the upper corner of the tank, or use a tank divider to keep the eggs and possibly the parents separate.

How long would this last before I needed to upgrade (which I will be doing eventually):

1 green severum
1 chocolate cichlid
6 giant danios
all the cats from the previous stock

i know that's definitely to small cramped for long term especially for the chocolate.
those are both pretty peaceful from my knowledge and I would get them both at about 2 inches.
so what's my timeframe before I need to upgrade if I did this?
