but you also need to know how serious you are about photography, because the model you pick will limit what you can do. ive always loved photography and i see myself getting serious with it, and now im seeing the limitations of the D40 and wished i would have paid more for a better model. just off the top of my head:

- the D40 doesnt have an internal focus motor, meaning you can using older lenses. youll need to buy AF-S lenses which have the motor in the lens. this means that any lens you want to buy will cost a lot more than an AF lens.

- doesnt have a flash commander mode. this means you cannot use a wireless flash unit like a SB-600/800 as you could with more expensive models. you would either have to use the flash with a cord, or get a SU-800 infared flash controller to allow you to use a speedlight wirelessly. this controller costs another $250ish

just some stuff to think about

And here I thought Jose was just another pretty face on MFK. ;)

Jcardona1 has given you great advise. The D3000 is a cross between the D60 and the D40. The only down part is the prices of the lens you'll need when ever you decide to upgrade to a different lens.

It took me about 6 months of researching to decide which camera was right for me. Just remember to compare prices, pros and cons on models in your price range.

The best advise I've gotten is to go to a store that has the cameras you may be interested in and hold it, use it and see if it fits you before you commit.

-Before I bought my camera, I was mentally sold on the D5000, but after I went down to the store and held it and used it a couple times it completely changed my mind.

i dont know .. i have a week or so that i can get that D3000 for $465 so i will think about it ... i guess everyone says that its not the best entry level DSLR on the market .. but the price is right .. and its not like its my main hobby .. so i doubt i will be disappointed with it
