i got mine brand new on ebay. lots of sellers still have them. just use a credit card and youre good

- the D40 doesnt have an internal focus motor, meaning you can using older lenses. youll need to buy AF-S lenses which have the motor in the lens. this means that any lens you want to buy will cost a lot more than an AF lens.
- doesnt have a flash commander mode. this means you cannot use a wireless flash unit like a SB-600/800 as you could with more expensive models. you would either have to use the flash with a cord, or get a SU-800 infared flash controller to allow you to use a speedlight wirelessly. this controller costs another $250ish
